Don't miss our upcoming guest speaker, Jan Polin, Sunday, Oct. 4 2009. A personable, warm and lively speaker, Jan teaches Healing Qigong/Tai Chi Movement, Taoist Meditation, Self-accupuncture, Healing Teas, and Traditional Sound Therapy. For our class, she will be sharing the healing benefits of "singing bowls," used throughout Asia for many centuries in the healing and balancing of chakra energy centers .
Jan began studying Traditional Chinese Medicine and Astrology in 1970 while an instructor at the Ming Chuan College in Taipei, Taiwan. After retiring from the State of California in 2001 after a successful career as a prison warden/inspector general, she returned to China to resume energy medicine studies. A fluent Mandarin-speaker, Jan studied with several Tibetan rimpoches (teachers), gigong masters, and even the Dalai Lama. She received a five-year Beijing certification as a Medical Qigong Instructor.
Today Jan teaches in a variety of locations including the Asian Community Center, the UC Medical Center Cancer Survivor program, Sutter Hospital's Holistic Health Care Center, and the Chapa-De Native American Health Program, among other venues. You can enjoy one of Jan's very popular traditional Chinese astrology readings on 2nd Saturdays at Sunlight of the Spirit Books & Gifts in Sacramento.

We are over half way through this course. I have learned much from all the participants: Susan, Wendy, Lisa, Dawn, Mark, Dave, Debbie, Katina, Maurice, and Dale...I hope this has been helpful to their meditation practices as well.
I have had the pleasure of meeting teachers who have taught me more about modalities known as qi-gong and tai chi, as well as Buddhism concepts. It has been amazing. I will elaborate on this soon as time allows....

set up, and waited for participants to arrive.
I was happy to experience this with her and
I hope it leaves a lasting impression on
her life in a very positive way.
Before we embarked on studying and meditating
about chakras in the coming weeks, today we first learned
to sense and familiarize ourselves with our "spirit bodies," our auric fields and chakras. We practiced seeing and feeling these energies.
We then learned to relax our physical bodies by employing deep, diaphragmmatic breathing, and "systemic relaxation" visualization techniques, techniques common to hypnotherapy. Deep breathing triggers relaxation responses in the body, and the article below (next to the tiger pic) details the actual physiological aspects of this process.
We practiced further concentrating our awareness by
grounding and centering our consciousnesses, and using the energies around us to assist us: cosmic energy, the energy of our Mother Earth, and the simple power "being here now."
We will briefly review these "Tools of Consciousness" before each subsequent session in the future. They are common to many spiritual paths, and are effective in setting the groundwork for productive meditation sessions. If you missed this session, don't worry.
These Tools of Consciousness are gifts of the soul available for us to enjoy and use any time, whether sitting in a car in rush hour traffic, standing in line at the groceries or bank, or even while traveling on a crowded bus, plane or train.

A game to play: when you're walking down the street, standing in a line at the grocery store, etc....can you see, with your mind's eye (aka your clairvoyance), the auras of others?
What are the colors of the auras? Textures? And more importantly, how do you instinctively interpret the colors and textures....as signs of anger, or joy, or fear? Once you learn to read yours and others' auric fields, you will be able to tell the subject's true state of mind and emotions.
If you have children, play "aura-viewing" games with them. Their minds are much more open and insightful about the spiritual realm than the average adult's. You'll be surprised how much they're able to "see" through their natural, unfettered abilities of clairvoyance, once they know they have your permission to freely express themselves.
In our next session, we will address the energy of the Root Chakra, the first in the system of seven major chakras in our "spirit bodies." See you then.

Since the early 1970s, science has had the technology to photograph the aura, and use the information in a variety of ways. Medical facilities, artists, psychologists and others record the energy transmissions of plants, animals and even humans, and use them in a variety of applications. There are many, many books written about auras. One I found comprehensive and informative, yet easy to understand is Aura Energy for Health, Healing & Balance, by Joe H. Slate, Ph.D. Lots of energy exercises here, as well.
